Looks like the phenomenon was caused by Stephen.

If he hadn’t said that they were avoiding some sort of danger, there would be no reason for it to have existed.

If a reason for its existence shows up later and appears to be rational, it too is just a product of his statement.

It doesn’t matter that his comment was published after the dangerous encounter in the park. His comment transcends time.

Or I’m just rambling.

Actually, I’m beginning to think this whole story is a shaggy dog story. As engrossing as this tale is, is it leading anywhere? What is the plot?
